This c 1770-1780 Dutch tall case clock is a classic late 18th century bombe footed tall case clock with burl walnut and sand burned veneer work.
It features an animated top of the Amsterdam harbor, moon phase dial and seconds and hours shown on a silvered brass dial. The gilt bronze surround on pendulum window shows the sea god, Neptune. The clock is topped by three hand-carved finials depicting Atlas and the herald angels signaling the end of time.
Signed by Thomas Thomson from Amsterdam circa 1770, it is a masterpiece of 18th-century horology. This clock features an 8-day movement, ornate brass dial with moon phase.
Thomas Thomson was a member of the famous family of Scottish clock makers.
